Diet And Peyronie’s Disease: Are The Foods You Eat Causing This Condition?

Peyronie’s disease (abnormal curvature of the penis) is caused by scar tissue formation. This scar tissue makes the penis bend at an unusual angle. Depending on its severity, the curvature could be painful and it could make intercourse impossible altogether.

While the use of traction devices is one of the best options when it comes to dealing with Peyronie’s disease, the foods that you eat also have an impact on the health of your penis. If you suffer from Peyronie’s disease, there are a few essential nutritional facts to keep in mind.

Inflammatory Foods Increase the Risk of Scar Tissue Formation

The formation of abnormal scar tissues could be the response to an inflammation. Many factors contribute to inflammation, including the chronic stress that we’re subjected to and some of the junk foods that we eat.

People who suffer from Peyronie’s disease and the ones at an increased risk for the condition (like people who have relatives suffering from Peyronie’s disease) should attempt to clean up their diet. Eliminating inflammatory foods will be imperative.

Inflammation-causing foods usually come in three categories – pre-packaged, processed and semi or fully-prepared items. Thus, cooking from scratch is one of the best options for reducing the risk of suffering from Peyronie’s disease.

Some of the foods that contribute to a high level of inflammation in the human body include:

  • Foods that contains hydrogenated or trans fats (shortening, lard and margarine are some of these incredibly harmful lipids)
  • Fatty cuts of red meat (that isn’t free-range or grass-fed)
  • Foods that contain added sugar, including carbonated beverages
  • Foods that contain additives like monosodium glutamate (MSG)
  • Refined carbs (white flour rather than wholegrains)
  • Foods that contain artificial and low-calorie sweeteners like aspartame
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Dairy products (especially if they aren’t organic)
  • Gluten-containing foods

Going through this list, you may feel that you should stop eating food altogether. This isn’t necessarily the case. While dairy and gluten-containing foods are bad for some people, others need them as a part of a balanced diet.

A balanced diet is actually the key. Eliminating junk food and cooking your own meals will lead to major improvements.

A Diet Missing Healthy Fats

Diet on its own can’t cure Peyronie’s disease. It is true, however, that men who don’t introduce diet changes are more likely to experience a second bout of scar tissue formation.

Scar tissue formation is a part of a healing process. This healing process could become abnormal in the absence of one important nutrient – healthy fat. Avoiding fat in your diet is a huge mistake that can potentially make Peyronie’s disease worse.

Healthy saturated fats play a role in the production of hormones and bodily healing. These healthy saturated fats include coconut oil, grass-fed butter and even egg yolks. Healthy fats aren’t linked to cardiovascular problems – there’s enough evidence already refuting such claims. Eat your daily butter confidently and don’t worry about getting a stroke.

Sugar consumption is actually quite guilty when it comes to heart and cardiovascular problems. As already mentioned, it also contributes to inflammation in the body.

Having an egg or two per day and keeping the carb intake limited will be very beneficial bot for dealing with Peyronie’s disease and improving your overall sexual health.

Lack Of Omega-3 Fatty Acids

People living in the Western world and consuming the standard Western diet are facing one big problem – a poor omega-3 to omega-6 ratio.

Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties, unlike omega-6. While omega-5 fatty acids are found in many foods we consume, you’ll have to make a conscious effort in order to boost your omega-3 intake.

There are supplements you can take to improve the ratio of the essential fatty acids. A few good sources of omega-3 include:

  • Mackerel, salmon and other fatty fish
  • Flaxseed and flaxseed oil
  • Cod liver oil
  • Walnuts
  • Chia seeds
  • Sardines
  • Egg yolks

The food that you eat can be your medicine or it could be making you sick. This statement is true for conditions like Peyronie’s disease. Improving your diet to reduce inflammation will have an array of additional health benefits for you.
